What distinguishes St. Matthew is our representation of diverse
ethnic backgrounds. At the festival you will find a wide variety of
home-cooked foods and desserts from around the globe!
Ethiopian Foods: Dorowat and Injera — One tender chicken leg bathed
in a spicy sauce complimented with a hard boiled egg, served with
traditional Ethiopian bread.
Greek Foods: Pastitsio, Moussaka, Spanakopita, Tiropites, Greek
Salad, Dalmades Gyros, Chicken Souvlaki
Lebanese Foods: Kibbe, Lebanese Rice, Hummus, Grape Leaves,
Fattoush Salad
Mexican Foods: Pork Tamales, Beef Enchiladas, Spanish Rice,
Rancheros Beans
Romanian Foods: Mititei - grilled spiced meat rolls with mustard
and a dinner roll, served with Romanian style coleslaw. Sarmale -
pickled cabbage meat rolls, served with mamaliga (Romanian version
of polenta) made on the premises.
Slavic Foods: Pirogi — pillows made from noodle dough stuffed with
a potato cheese filling, boiled and served with butter and onions.
Kids can't get enough! Holuptsi — cabbage leaves stuffed with
savory beef and pork filling and roasted in tomato sauce, made
lovingly according to Baba's recipe. Pirozhki — hand-formed little
pillows of raised sweet dough filled with beef, onion and
hard-boiled egg. Baked to golden perfection! Borsch — traditional
Russian beet and vegetable soup, served with sour cream.
Desserts: Slavic nut and poppy seed rolls, Romanian nut and raisin
breads (cozonac), Nut Horns, Russian Torte,
Baklava, Apple Strudel, Finikia/Melomakarona, Koulourakia, Paxamadia
(Biscotti), and Diples, along with some traditional American
favorites.
